Reviews to Come

So, I’ve been thinking a lot about my hair lately.  Mostly it has been if I will be dying it the blonde again or dying it a light golden brown.  I colored my hair at the beginning of September a lighter blonde and the roots are now showing.  I’m bored with my hair and I was thinking of going to a golden brown.  I’ve had mixed takes on it, some people said it would look good because my eyebrows are already very dark, and also because it is Fall now.  Others do not want to see me without blonde hair.  I’m still struggling with what I should do, I’m thinking about asking my hairstylist when I go in to get a cut in a week.

But anyways, that is besides the point.  I will be posting reviews up soon of a couple hair products I just recently bought.  First is the “Beyond the Zone: Bored Straight”.  I actually got this because my fiancee and I went and bought some hair products before his membership card was up and we only needed one more product to get a free travel bag.  It is said to work just like Tigi Bedhead products but at less the price.  I have yet to use it but I will soon….once I get my new hair straightener!

I just bought the Solia Pink Limited Edition 1″ Flat Iron.  I had a Revlon one for awhile and that has been dying.  Then, about a year and a half ago I bought the Remington Wet-to-Straight Flat Iron and that has been working ok but I can really only use it on dry hair and it really dries my hair out and still shows frizz.  Well, ever since I brought that on a trip with me it has been shorting out lately so I figured it was time to invest in a much better straightener that would last me longer.  I should be receiving this new one in a few days and will be sure to report back on it =)

Is it 5pm yet?

The past two hours I’ve been doing about 10% work and 90% surfing the internet and news sites.  My bosses are in a meeting which means I have no one watching over my back and therefore do non-work related things.

I was talking to my friend online today about webpages and such.  She doesn’t know I blog but she does know I used to do webdesign a long time ago.  She actually works as a Flash coding specialist and therefore nows much more about web stuff than I do.  We talked a lot about website stuff and it got me excited about getting back into it.  Problem is, I don’t have the time really right now to invest in it.  I would love to have a domain but I don’t think that would go over well with the fiancee, I’m having a hard enough time convincing him that if he wants a wedding webpage we should do our own instead of paying a wedding website to host it for us with limited options.  This is just rambling, I told you I was bored at work.

Slow Cooker – Mexican Flank Steak

I was reading through my Woman’s Day a week or so ago and found a recipe for a Flank Steak that you can do in the slow cooker.  Well, we decided to try it out last Saturday and it was very tasty and good.  The only problem we had was when we tried to Butterfly the Flank Steak we ended up getting a few holes.  I think our flank steak was just too thin, but it worked well with the stuffing anyways.  The one thing I recommend is checking it after about 5 hours because we put ours in at 1 p.m. and when we came back at 6:30 it was done and just a tad dry.  This recipe is courtesy of Woman’s Day:

Mexican Rolled Flank Steak

Serves 5

Active: 25 min/Total: 8 on low *(Check after 5 hours)

INGREDIENTS:
One 1 1/2-lb flank steak
1 box (6 oz) cornbread stuffing mix
1 cup thick and chunky salsa
1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro

PREPARATION:
1. Ask your butcher to butterfly the flank steak, or you can do it yourself: Lay meat on a cutting board with the grain running vertically. Using a long, sharp knife, cut the meat almost in half, opening it like a book but stopping before going all the way through. Cut several 12-in. pieces of kitchen twine and space evenly under steak.*

2. Toss cornbread stuffing with 1 cup boiling water and 1/2 cup salsa until moistened; stir in cilantro. Spread over steak, leaving about 1 inch along edges. Roll steak starting from a long side, jelly-roll style; tie with twine.

3. Place seam side down in a 6-qt oval slow-cooker. Spoon remaining 1/2 cup salsa over meat. Cover and cook on low 8 to 10 hours.

4. Remove steak to a cutting board; let rest 10 minutes. Discard cooking liquid. Remove string and cut steak into 1/2-in.-thick slices. Serve with additional salsa, if desired.

Per serving: 370 cal, 33 g pro, 28 g car, 2 g fiber, 12 g fat (5 g sat fat), 57 mg chol, 936 mg sod

Wisconsin Shooting Kills 6

It really disgusts me how young adults can be innocently killed.  I read Cnn.com every day, probably a few times a day, to keep up on all the news.  But, this type of news really effects my day and makes me wonder why i keep up on everything.  It is very sad and my heart goes out to the families who lost their children in this selfless act.

Need to get healthy!

So my fiancee and I have been saying for awhile, especially since we got back from a vacation abroad, that we need to lose weight.  I’ve gained 10 pounds since I went and it has been 3 months now and I still weigh the same.  We try to just eat healthy or watch our intake but nothing is working.  To be honest, we need something that is structured that has steps for us we can follow.  I think once I figure out a diet plan then I need to start exercising.  Right now, I have no motivation to exercise because i’m eating well and nothing is happening, if that makes any sense.  Any diet plan recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

Review – Rimmel Bronzer

I just bought this a few weeks ago and I love it.  I think it was exactly what I was looking for and it only cost me about $3.50.  I’ve been wanting a bronzer because I am very pale in the winter and have already been rapidly losing my tan.  This bronzer works great and it looks very natural.  You can also make it darker very easily if you want.   I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a cheap bronzer that works well and doesn’t need a mirror inside the bronzer packaging.

Loving WordPress!

Filed under: Blog, Daily Life, Friends, Hometown — by heygirl6 @ 10:35 am

So far, I am really loving WordPress.  I think they have really organized this program well.  I love the blog stats and the categories, it helps keeps my posts organized and know where people are coming from.  Hopefully when I get into the groove of posting and actually making something out of this I can plug-it more but now it really is nothing.

In other news, my friend from high school is coming into my area and staying with us this weekend so that will be fun.  It has always been “different” ever since I went to college and moved from home.  Not different friendships wise but just different.  I feel as though I am changed since then and when I go home I feel out of place.  Going from a very small country town to a suburb outside of a city has been a big change for me.  I think I’m used to it now but I’m not sure my friends from home are.

Reviews/Daily Life/News

Filed under: Blog, Daily Life, News, Reviews — by heygirl6 @ 5:48 pm

This blog will be mainly based on reviews I do on beauty products, books, etc.  I may add some recipes in here or there depending on when/if I ever get time to cook.  I’ll also have some snippets of my daily life and maybe add some news things in (I’m an addict of Cnn).  I do have a LiveJournal where I post my pictures and more private things and that is friends-only.  So, if you would like to see that then you would need to add me as a friend.

Other than that, there is not much else.  My main reason in starting this blog is because my job currently is not very exciting, nor very challenging.  Therefore, I tend to surf the net and email a lot so I decided to add this to take up some of my time.  =)

New Blog!

So, I finally caved and started a blog again.  I’ve been on LiveJournal for a long time and kept everything private.  I still intend to do so and want to use this as more of a review site/daily life blog without bringing in many private things since I want this to stay somewhat anonymous.  I have had issues in the past and I don’t want some people to know I do this.  Now, i just have to work on the layout.
